ReFashion 2015: Watermelon Season

Original Header1

ReFashion 2015 continues! You may remember this little number from one of my Halloween ensembles last year! This thrifted fabulousness cemented my making an appearance as Frida Kahlo last year. But I knew I’d be rocking this baby for a long time to come and needed it summer ready!

The simple breakdown:

  1. I opened up the neckline by squaring the front.
  2. Then I shortened the hemline to just above the knee.
  3. Then I hacked off the citrus ribbons. It was too much.
  4. Lastly I have gained weight since I scored this dress so I needed to make room in the torso so I inserted a panel at the back of the dress for more space when sitting and a more tented shape.
  5. Voilà!

So far in the two weeks I have finished this dress I’ve worn it three times. I LURVE it!

  1. i love watermelon dresses and i love you! fabulous as always!! xoxo

  2. nice refashion. I agree – the green ribbons had to go. You’ve inspired me – I have something in my closet with long ribbonny things like that that maybe could be refashioned into a shorter dress.

  3. Perhaps it is because I love your Frida, but I think I may have liked that dress better in its full on mu-mu status. Your refashion, however, is clearly waaaaaaaay more wearable and SoCal weather appropriate. As always, I am in awe of your mad skills. Another fabulous make over.

    • Thanks lovely! Yes wearability is the thing my love. That is the whole point of ReFashion2015 to actually wear my closet. ❤ I felt nostalgia for the Frida look when I looked at my gorgeous Frida pics but nothing more I love my refashion. I've worn it more then anything else in my closet since I finished it. EVEN more then my stretchy harem pants I wore to the Wild Women Sleepover! LOL

  4. I love clothes with watermelon print, but this is so gorgeous in how subtle it is! beautifully done, as always 🙂

    • Thanks Jess! We share that watermelon print love! And I really do appreciate the subtlety as well! . I am not so much a kitsch girl but this folksy craft application makes me happy! I will definitely be experimenting with sophisticated ways to applique now! ❤

  5. Loving this dress, girl!
