Harlan Silverman aka Harlan makes cool Indie Pop that references all the best of the 80’s that I can’t get enough of.
I first saw him open for Mayer Hawthorne at the Wiltern Theater here in Los Angeles and instantly became a fan. Twenty or so minutes into his set, he cemented that fandom when I realized he was performing a Steve Winwood cover. Pretty awesome. A fantastic guitarist and charmed performer, Harlan reminds me of a few artists but is only, completely, uniquely, himself. Listen for yourself.
His new EP 1984 is out now and his previous Native Son EP is also fantastic. Check him out at his site or on Soundcloud. Plus, Rolling Stone Magazine is offering a free download of Harlan’s single “American,” which is one of the best songs about American politics I’ve heard in a long time. Thank me later.
